Apologies for the late update but we've been keeping pretty busy here in Bogotá with visits to Adi's family members, traveling between here and "El Tutumo" and trying to get to know the city as much as possible. Needless to say, after three weeks, we are ready to get on the move again. This afternoon or evening we're heading to Medellín, Colombia where we'll likely spend just under a week getting to know the city. So far everyone has told us that it is a must-see and incredible, so I'm looking forward to spending some time there. After Medellín, the plan is to start making our way to Ecuador, and perhaps making a stop in Cali, Colombia to shorten the travel distance a bit.
Anyways, over the past two and a half weeks we've been in Bogotá for most of the time. The city is always moving- as I said before it's like New York City in South America. There is a lot to do during the day, but the weather has been less than perfect most days. We're currently experiencing "el fenómeno de La Niña" which is a climate reaction of the ocean and atmosphere where heavy rains tend to result in this part of the Andes. We're hoping to escape the remaining as we make our way further south.
Some of the highlights over the past few weeks include a 5-day trip to "El Tutumo" or Adi's family's farm in La Mesa, Colombia, a trip to the Gold Museum here in Bogotá, and simply hanging out with our friends here in the city.
"El Tutumo" is, simply put, a paradise. La Mesa is a temperate climate area at a lower latitude yet is just about a 2 hour drive from Bogotá. We had a great time spending a few days with some friends hiking around the area, relaxing in the pool, cooking our own meals, etc. All of us found ourselves continuously saying that we could easily live the rest of our lives there happily.
Besides the trip to the museum and spending time with Adi's family and our friends, there isn't a whole lot to update on. I'm glad to be getting on the road again and seeing some new places. We've established ourselves in Bogotá for quite some time now, and it will be good to have a change of scenery.
I've added something new today- if you click on the map I've posted on the left-hand side of the blog page you'll be re-directed to a Google Maps application that I plan to keep updating as we start the rest of the trip this week. The lines signify the places I've already traveled whereas the blue points show where we plan to go over the next few months.
Hope everyone is well and having a great start to the summer! Enjoy some pictures of the last few weeks below.
Went to a family friend of Adi's family's farm and restaurant one Thursday
Maria Mercedes Williamson (Mechas)'s house in Subachoque, Colombia.
Fresh mora (blackberries) were growing everywhere.
The kitchen in Mechas' restaurant "La Caballeriza"
"La Caballeriza"
The restaurant even has its own bull fighting ring.
The beautiful countryside of Subachoque.
Made sushi again in Subachoque at a house of the Bleier's relatives.
We made quite a bit
At Andres Carne de Res with some friends- awesome bar/club in Chia
With Laura (our hostess in Bogota) and her boyfriend Luis Miguel
On our way to "El Tutumo" ran into some flooding- Bogota is having lots of problems with that currently.
The awesome kitchen in "El Tutumo"
View from the backyard/pool area of the place
The creek behind the farm where we hiked for a good 3 hours one day
Collection of bamboo trees by the creek

One of the many giant frogs we encountered at night by the pool.
One of the delicious meals we made that consisted of grilled chicken, tomato & onion salad, and yucca.
Guanabana or "soursop" fruit
Mangosteen fruit- there are 112 of these trees in "El Tutumo"
View from the mangosteen grove
On our way back to Bogota swung by El Mondoñedo for a delicious roast beef sandwich and Coca-Cola
Cheers,
Travis
